Why Doctors Hospital? I can’t wait to grow, learn, and have fun with my DHEM family! The faculty support and program camaraderie was evident on my interview day (which was virtual, so this says a lot). Also looking forward to continuing to explore Columbus with my co-residents!
Fun Fact: I get countless comments in reference to my name…though it works out because FRIENDS is easily the best show of all time!

Why Doctors Hospital? I’m most excited to learn and grow in a place with so many sincerely wonderful and supportive co-residents. I love how DHEM is both a well established residency with a track record of educating amazing EM doctors but is also willing to grow and adapt when needed.

Benjamin Kastenbauer, DO

Interests: Hoping to practice in a semi-urban area, likely academic and be involved in more national organizations, specifically those organizations aimed at “limited resource medicine” such as during times of national disasters
Why Doctors Hospital? Getting to my skills and passion to use in a field of medicine that I am genuinely excited for!
Fun Facts: Married to an amazing partner. We have a 15 pound spaniel mix named Cooper who is an excellent companion to us! Tallest cliff I’ve climbed is 600 feet, broke my heel 3 days later by jumping from a 10 foot ledge… Worked as a wilderness guide in Northern MN and Central Ontario, and worked as a restaurant cook before getting into medicine.

Excited to serve the diverse and underprivileged patient population seen at doctors hospital and making a positive impact on my patients anyway I can. DHEM is truly a close knit family. I’m excited to be joining them and make life long connections with my colleagues.

Interests: I entertain ideas of medical education or disaster medicine fellowship, though I can also see myself working in a community setting in the middle of nowhere with little resources. Time will tell.
Why Doctors Hospital? I’ve been lucky to match with an amazing intern class. In such a short time our friendship and camaraderie developed effortlessly. I will continue to enjoy getting to know these individuals as we grow throughout residency. In addition, Doctor’s Hospital culture stands out to me as welcoming and enthusiastic. I sense that my training will come with remarkable mentorship and collaboration. While I will be challenged throughout my time as a resident, I feel supported by the leadership of Doctor’s Hospital Emergency Medicine.
